ABOUT MIKAILA

Mikaila is an award-winning Canadian music supervisor with over thirteen years of experience. She has sourced everything from eighth-century Belarusian folk music for Vikings to undiscovered Inuit hip hop for The Grizzlies. She’s lent her expertise to amazing projects such as The Handmaid’s TaleFellow TravelersMary Kills People, and the upcoming feature Forbidden Fruits and Untitled Newfoundland Netflix Project. She has overseen on-camera performances, produced custom songs and remixes, and interweaved licensed music with score.

As a proudly queer, neurodivergent woman, Mikaila is passionate about showcasing under-represented, emerging or undiscovered musical talent. She has a knack for finding modern breakout artists, as well as overlooked vintage recordings. She has eclectic taste and a love of music history, and recently found herself listening to Chet Baker, Pete & Bas, Kate Bush and Portuguese covers of ABBA within the same eight hour period. Above all, Mikaila is a lover of music, storytelling, and the convergence of the two. She loves quiet character pieces, campy maximalism, horror, slapstick comedy and mockumentaries by Christopher Guest. She understands the value of well-placed silence as well as the rush of a show-stopping montage. And she aims to make every music placement as epic as Mike Myers and Dana Carvey headbanging to “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
